The Alabama Hills Stewardship Group is exited to announce the:

 1st Annual “Alabama Hills Day” on Saturday, April 14th from 9am to 3pm at the Lone Pine Museum of Film History. The purpose of this event is to celebrate this incredibly scenic landscape and educate the public about the wide variety of groups/activities that access and interface with the Alabama’s.

April Alabama Hills Stewardship
Public Meeting Announced

The community of Lone Pine and the Bureau of Land Management’s Bishop Field Office will hold a short public meeting April 23 in Lone Pine regarding management of the Alabama Hills. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. at the Beverly and Jim Rogers Museum of Lone Pine Film History. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss stewardship actions completed to date and to discuss future actions proposed for the management of the hills, said Chris Langley, Inyo County Film Commissioner.

Outings for Spring 2009

Friday Field Trips to the Alabama Hills – April 3, and 17. Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Whitney Portal and Movie Flat Roads. These field outings are designed to watch the spring blooms emerge and change throughout the month of April which is an optimal month to see a range of local species favorites’ such as scarlet locoweed, golden gilia, and sand blossoms.

Has the economic “crisis” got you down? Do you wonder how the national stimulus plan will feed your family? Have you been run over by an ‘omnibus’ lately? Do you enjoy being force-fed national policy that impacts our public lands? Both the Alabama Hills Stewardship Group (AHSG) and the sub-committee I chair (to explore the potential for a federal designation for the Alabama Hills) are grappling with similar questions (of local vs national) as they apply toward access to land and protecting the rich history and landscapes that reside in our ‘backyards’.
